Roadside MX Park by ElDiablo_Paul

Type: Free Ride

This track has been a labor of love (so-to-speak). I wanted to create something that was sort of 'believable', or realistic (or as close as I thought that I could get). The title says's a track in a valley set alongside of a road. There is a parking lot complete with parking spaces, and yes even handicapped parking spaces!

There is also a fire road, and I made a TON of new custom objects, each with a normal (bump) map and a specular (reflection) map. The entrance to the parking lot is marked by custom signs. The entrance to the fire road is also marked (again) by custom signs. The fire road itself has custom car and truck tire ruts, and the track has custom ruts and caterpillar marks.

HUGE thanks to DS19 for putting up with me, and helping to teach me how to do the bump models and walking me through custom models and normal maps. Also for testing and advice. Some of which is still yet to be implemented. Also thanks to C4Detonator for testing and advice...and helping me to find rocks that don't suck! I have a few adjustments to make and I saw one rock that has a hole in it on the backside of the track that I need to fix.

It isn't perfect...but this version is going to be released with the National (splined) version so that people can actually go check out the offtrack areas and see what (I believe) makes this track seem more realistic.

One last thing...once you get around the corner from the funnel start, be sure to check out Mount Saint Helens in the background! There are several cool backdrops with mountains and I used a couple on the sides of the track...but I wanted an iconic image to bring this thing together, and I couldn't think of a better mountain to add.

Kind of strange to have that and the willow trees I guess...but it all looks pretty decent hopefully. Enough of my babble...go download and check it out.

Ummm...72 Downloads as of this morning and only 2 reviews?

You guys DO understand the concept of BETA TESTING don't you?

Step - 1 Download and play
Step - 2 Make notes if you need to
Step - 3 Write a review!!! Include any issues or concerns, tips, wants, needs, wishes, etc...

Simply downloading a beta and not giving any review is contrary to the whole concept and frankly not helpful to the creator/track maker. If that is your intention then simply don't download any beta is RUDE not to at least give some sort of feedback otherwise.

Sorry for the rant...but come ON!!!

If you want a real review/overview of the track, its best to speak to content creators since they have perspective on what to do and how to change it if neccessary. We've been in positions that release tracks with 0% input by ppl and either they'll say minimal or nothing too much to critique (or stupid shit). Sorry to offend anyone, but after 4 years on this site, asking for input to random people hasn't always ended up well XD.

As for the track, I told you everything via Steam that I'de like to see as of my preference, but as the track is itself is great. As an man who loves environment, there are ALOT of bland, empty areas that could be filled with literally anything: rocks, trees, bushes, buildings, water, fences, barriers, towers, tents, canopies, etc.

The heightmap is solid besides the landings of the giant doubles which I would like to see spread out or add green/yellow on zone 2 for drag on the face of the takeoffs so you dont overshoot by too much.

The uniqueness and creativity are definitely up there, several of the sections like the uphill and downhill whoops are cool to ride as well as the wide open pacing of the track.

Textures and chrominance are decent and help the track outline its path, though due to the little amount of heightmap hills/elevation off-track, there doesnt appear to be much of a difference between basic and detailed (for offtrack only).

The things I want to see improved are mainly filling those empty, dull areas with life somehow. The other critiques are not substancial nor neccessarily a main focus form my own output.

OMG this is a really fun track. I was quite impressed on how good it looked. Those sweeping corners and large berms are a really fun one specially on multiplayer. It may be a flat out gas kind of track but if the player is not on their guard they may slid out. Those whoops are really good of size, not too difficult and not too easy. The 2-2-2 at the back section is kinda weird, but i think its just me. Overall, it's a really fun track with a good flow and it really looks good, keep it up.

Hey Paul... Always love your work all the way back to MCM...This track looks and rides great... Love the elevation changes especially mixed with the off-camber bumps and jumps... couple things I would adjust would be small things like softening some of the elevation to blend more with the surroundings or add rocky type texture so they look my like realistic cliffs and ridges... keep it up bro... Oh wow, this track is absolutely perfect! Great national with a lot of different and good flowing sections all around the track. I really like the up- and downhill whoops! Corners are perfectly and every jump combo is sooo cool. I think you don't have to change anything on this track to release it as a raceable national. Veeery good job done, really =)

Now THAT is more like it! Thanks for all the kind words and pointing out where there's room for improvement! Together we ALL make better tracks. Also a HUGE thank you to qontusolsson for posting the YouTube video of a lap around the track! It is difficult to ride around the track myself and look for things that need improvement. But this makes it easy since I don't have to worry about racing! Very cool indeed my friend!
